Death in Sanda

It was bound to happen sooner or later, but 2 of my beetles have bought the farm. Yes, gone to the big jelly cup in the sky. Strangely enough, crazy old Takeshi the kuwagata is still alive and kicking. We even have a new addition to the family, thanks to the efforts of Bec and Becki. This beetle is, alas!, sans horns, but we will love him and care for him and call him "Gaydrian". I've noticed that insects in Japan are disturbingly large. Recently, we've seen a number of M.O.U.S.'s, or Moths of Unusual Size. This mofo (pictured) was bigger than my hand. Credits to Bec for the photo.

Um... his name is 'Jelly-belly' not 'Gaydrian'.

And I think he might be a "Dolichoprosopus yokoyamai" or maybe a "Megopis sinica"...
